I've never seen so many hard-bodied, leather-loin-cloth-esque-man-pantied men in one place in my life. It was a spur of the moment thing with some people from work which was fun (the first movie I've seen in theatres since I left home!) and for an action movie it was enjoyable. It was a very pretty movie. I'd buy it when it comes out on DVD just to take caps and stare at them. I liked the cinematography and the sepcial effects and the way they treated the blood and gore. I didn't find it overly bloody but there were some definite moments of uck in it. But I thought they were very awesomely done.
Beyond that- um. Yeah. The movie itself isn't THAT great. It's a fun movie, an action movie, a pretty movie but it's not necessarily that smart. It's heavy handed and the dialogue was stilted at times. I felt it lost its stride when the King (Gerry Butler) went to talk to the Persian god king or whoever he was. There were some humourous one-liners but after that it was like the movie was trying to be this action movie with a triumphant story but also trying to appeal to people who needed the mood lightened, or something. There were more than a few times that my friends and I looked at each other and asked if we were SUPPOSED to be laughing.
Storyline and subtlety of a 20-lb sledgehammer to the foot, see this movie in theatres for the sheer SIZE of it. And see it from farther back cause there's A LOT going on that sitting up front will overwhelm you. It's a GORGEOUS movie, seriously, and I'd see it again just for that. And the 85% nekkid guys. And Gerry Butler's ass. And his Queen cause she was hot. And... yeah. PRETTY MOVIE. The end.
So today (yesterday now, but whatever) marked 10 years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered on the teevee. Oh, Buffy. My first fandom. I watched Buffy from the VERY beginning, meaning the movie. I loved the movie. I STILL love the movie, in fact. And then I heard of the TV show and my mom and I started watching and followed it for seven years. Well, me more than my mom but she'd watch it, too. Today the series, for me, ends with season 5 as was Joss' original vision for it. While my favourite episode ("Conversations with Dead People") is in season 7 and there were a couple other episodes I really liked in those last two seasons for me "The Gift" is the finale.
I didn't actually discover "fandom" until season 7 when I stumbled across fanfic and icons and PEOPLE. And then began my descent into madness. I met the people who would become the Fcukers (in a different incarnation, but the core people are still the same), wrote some bad fanfic, made some bad icons and started to hate Sarah Michelle Gellar and, in turn, Buffy as a character. I've distanced myself from the show enough now over time and emotionally that I've started to re-watch the series. I stalled at the end of season 2 but all the Buffy nostalgia posts on my flist today makes me want to keep going. And I've been jazzed for the Buffy comic season 8 that's coming out this week, I think.
It was a good time for me, during the run of that series.
1. John, Mary, and Sam are all Biblical names, but Dean is not. Do you think Kripke did this purposely? And if so, what is the significance?
I think it's all just a co-incidence. They're all very basic, normal names and as fans we'll read more into it than was probably ever intended but I don't think the names mean anything.
2. From what the demon has suggested so far, we know Sam's afraid he's destined to go "dark", but what about Dean? Do you think greater things, whether they be good or bad, await Dean?
Someone in the past month or so (someone on my flist, I think- speak up if it was you!) has brought up the suggestion of Sam being the red herring for whatever is coming. Clearly the demon could have done away with Dean at any time to get to Sam and had the perfect opportunity while Sam was possessed (whether or not the demon was acting of its own... free will? I guess, to get revenge on them sending it to hell) and yet it didn't take it. It could be very possible that the YED has bigger plans for BOTH of the boys since Dean is very strong willed and capable. And what a feather in its cap to kill Mama and Papa and then take control of the boys to decimate the family entirely, this family that has been a threat since the day it waltzed into Sammy's nursery.
3. Which singer/band/song would you like to see featured on the show next?
I... have no idea. I'm crap with the music. I'd like to be able to have better access to the instrumental compositions they create for the show, though.
4. If you could change anything about Sam and/or Dean, what would it be?
How could I change anything? Every little piece of them is what makes them SAM and DEAN. It's like asking me to pick which one I like best- they're a SET. Neither of them is the same without the other so I HAVE to pick them both.
5. What was your reaction when you discovered the squeaks in the Metallicar's doors are actually sound effects?
Indifference? I get why the sound people did it but I'm not heartbroken that they're not real. If anything it doesn't make sense that Dean would allow the doors to stay that sqeaky, especially if he's trying to sneak up on people or something, or hiding in the car. The squeaks would be a dead giveaway.
