I really liked this episode, although the more I thought on it, the more I had thinky thoughts and some objections. I don't know if I'll be able to express them properly, though.

Another episode that focuses on Gwen. Surprise! I must say, though, that she was hardly annoying at all in this one and maybe that was because her hysteria, at times, was actually justified. I really, REALLY enjoy that Rhys knows now. That moment between them in the apartment was really great, and then when she brought him down into HQ.

The alien of the week storyline didn't really affect me one way or the other. Maybe if I'd been a little more hormonal or just in a different mood, period, I might have cried when Owen had to kill the monster, I don't know. As it stood I was pretty, 'eh, whatevs' about it.

The thing I really noticed from this episode, though, was how much more Jack relates to the aliens than the humans. He's a hardass when it comes to his team but he really wants to bring some justice and a kind heart to the aliens who have no other defense but them. Part of that is from what he went through with the Doctor, of course, but I also think he identifies with the aliens himself, now. He can't die. That's a pretty alien concept in any culture.

Which brings me to Gwen. I DO NOT enjoy this potential 'ship thing the writers are trying to throw at us, if that is what they're doing. I have a hard time picking up on what they REALLY mean in this show sometimes because there are so many innuendos and double meanings and whatnot, and things they're plain keeping from us for whatever reason they have. I don't feel very hopeful about the Jack/Ianto thing, which sucks, and while I don't think it'll ever boil down to Jack and Gwen going at it in his office with a stop watch, it's getting too... thick for my liking.

I did come to a bit of a realization tonight, though. Gwen's supposed to represent the everyman who joined up with this group. We're supposedly seeing the organization through her eyes, experiencing as she does and, in theory, relating to her because she HAS the normal life beyond TW (sort of) whereas everyone else ONLY has the job. I don't know how all that will change now that Rhys knows but that's neither here nor there. I think Jack is holding on to Gwen so tightly because he sees her as his humanity. He can't die and he has more empathetic feelings for aliens than humans lately. But Gwen feels for everything, human or not (depending). She is the group's one link to the outside world who has still tried to stay grounded in it.

To me it seems almost like Jack is starting to depend on her for that other side, even though she goes off half-cocked all the time (good LORD can she stop that?). She challenges him more than anyone else has (Owen had that one uprising at the end of the first series and, yeah, KILLED Jack, but that was being strong in a moment of weakness) WITH her human side.

Maybe I'm totally off base with all this but if this is how I have to try and look at their relationship from now on to take the edge off the weird vibes I get from them in a shippy way, then so be it. I just REALLY don't want to see Gwen shag/snog/bang her way through the men of TW. LAME, I say.

OH GOD, OH GOD. What the FUCK happened between Tosh and Owen in the past week? WTF, RTD? I thought after last week that Owen might be the one to be starting to come around and Tosh would be the unapproachable one. I almost think that this stuff was aired out of sequence or something but, of course, we'd have noticed that Rhys knows who Gwen really is now had they aired any of that last week. I'm seriously so baffled by this whole Tosh/Owen thing. Shit or get off the pot, dudes.

We KNOW Tosh has the hots for Owen and has FOREVER. We also know Owen is either a totally oblivious numbnuts or a total jackass for being aware and acting like that around her (I'm thinking the former). Lately they've been making some small strides toward bringing Owen around (which I don't know if I'm on board with yet. I just don't know if I want Owen and Tosh all lovey dovey. That could have something to do with the fact that I LOVED Owen/Gwen last season, as dirtybadwrong as it was.) and then this week they run right back into the gopher hole.

Ianto was once again one-liner man. I was especially giggly over the, "We could release a single" line in response to Tosh thinking they could feed the world.

Next week should be fun!
