Slept until noon today, which was awesome, but now I feel all sluggish and tired again. I love sleeping in but it does fuck up my day.
Saw Nightmare on Elm Street Last Night.
Not that great. I didn't see the original so I was going in pretty much blind as to how the story was going to play out but I heard it was supposed to be a recreation of the original with some minor changes, like giving Freddy a back story to explain why he went after the kids.
I liked Katie in it but I also watched When a Stranger Calls for her, so that doesn't say much to the quality of the film. I think the best thing in the movie was ger gorgeous hair, and that's sad.
I had a huge problem with a lot of the acting. The parents of all the kids, who burned Freddy alive in a building back in the day to get revenge for him molesting their children, didn't act concerned AT ALL when the kids starting dying all of a sudden. Nancy's mom was just like, "Oh, hey. You're looking for all this info and we did something to protect you and that's that." But really quiet and without emotion. Hell, NANCY wasn't emotional. She was very subdued through the whole thing and it was hella annoying.
There also wasn't ANY lead up to things. The movie just opened with the story right away with no triggering event or anything. Just, BOOM! Kellan Lutz dies and whoops, all the other kids are having dreams, too. I don't know if that's how the original played the story, too, but I'd find it annoying in either.
Near the end of the movie things started unravelling quickly and, meh. It was.... not that great. I'll probably buy it when it comes out because Katie's in it and it might grow on me but as someone who was eager to have an old horror franchise introduced to her in an updated way I was far from impressed but I think part of it had to do with the acting, along with the writing. D said Freddy was way too serious for the role, that Robert always played him a bit funnier. I don't know if that just didn't fit in with the aesthetic the people behind this movie were aiming for, the writers couldn't step up or perhaps Jackie Earl Haley just didn't live up to the role, I don't know, but it wasn't intentionally funny and the not-supposed-to-be-funny movies were few and far between, too.
Maybe it's because I'm a little groggy and not very into things today but I found parts of this ep a little confusing. The whole rip in time and how time can be rewritten things threw me a bit. I know it'll come back in later eps, though.
Wasn't really a fan of Amy throwing herself at the Doctor at the end of the episode but I'm all for the next episode. Looks like it'll be a hoot.
Don't know what to think of River Song. It's all so annoyingly cryptic. I spent part of the episode thinking she was going to BE a Doctor somehow, which I wouldn't enjoy, I don't think, and wondering how the hell they were going to explain that part. Eh, who knows. I hope they resolve that plot by the end of this season.
So yeah. Okay episode but not a fave so far.
