All hands on deck!

How many people are aware of what the LiveJournal Advisory board is? You probably have a vague recollection of it from the Strikethrough debacle from a year ago or whenever LJ skirmishes pop up now and then. It's made up of non-user members (along with Brad, the founder of LJ) and now, user-representatives. The current board non-users and the mandate can be found here.
I've heard NO ONE on my flist talk about the elections for the user-rep positions aside from
vichan, who is running. She got the required 100 supporting nominations to make it to the voting along with 16 other people. In case you don't know who she is, she's in SPN fandom and, among other things, she created
fandom_counts last year as a way of showing LiveJournal that people involved in ALL fandoms matter, too; that we have a voice that should be noticed.
Her whole platform, which is laid out VERY well, can be read here. I haven't read any of the other platforms, if any of the other candidates have them up yet, but
vichan has been talking about this opportunity since the idea of it came about months and months ago. She's dedicated to LJ, she's dedicated to making sure LJ is accountable to the users and she's dedicated to doing a good job.
Voting will open on May 22 for two elections--one for the Cyrillic-language users and one for everyone else, which is us. The community that has all the people running, the details and, tomorrow, the voting will be posted at is
lj_election_en.
I don't know how many people care about this sort of thing, especially right now since LJ's been quiet with issues lately and there hasn't been much bruhaha. But I DO know that people care about LJ being disrupted and our fandom home being in flux. That's why this is important, at least to me. I'd encourage everyone to vote for
vichan but I think it's important to vote period in this thing. If you don't, the next time LJ goes balls up you really have no right to complain.
I don't know how effective the Advisory board will be. Sad, but honest. However, at least there will be representatives from US, the USERS, there. And how awesome would it be for one of them to be from fandom? Pretty damn, eh?
Please, spread the word. Link back to
vichan's post, link back to this one, whatever. Get the word out to everyone to vote and pick someone they feel will represent the users well. Voting runs from May 22 to the 29th.
