ohnotheydidnt and things like that but I haven't been a consistent watcher in FOREVER. I'd heard a month or so ago that Gale Harold was maybe appearing on the show next season but it wasn't until I saw the post about the finale at ONTD last night that I remembered.
I might just have to watch the show next season. I kind of hate Teri Hatcher's character and none of the other story lines really grip me but I enjoy the character interactions to a point. But now that Gale is going to be appearing on the show I'll suck it up and watch. The finale was actually pretty cool, imo. I mean, the shit that happens on that street is SO unrealistic, almost more so than a soap opera, even. But I enjoy the way the girls get along and how they support each other through anything. It's kind of like a suburban, married Sex and the City, in that regard.
So, Marc Cherry and the ladies of Desperate Housewives, you've won back one tentative viewer. For now. Keep Gale Harold on, and looking none-too-shabby, and I'll tune in.
All right so... I liked the episode. I thought it had some pretty good oomph to it and while there weren't any huge bombshells it was pretty damn entertaining.
I'm seriously starting to really, really dislike Dan. Maybe he's written better in the books, I dunno. He's just so... BLAH. His character is a total dud. He just... UGH. And coupled with Serena doesn't help him out any, either. She's been almost as bad these past few episodes, at least as far as her excuses and that whole, "I KILLED SOMEONE!" storyline played out.
DAN. JESUS CHRIST. You're supposed to be the sensitive one! Telling your father on the day of his former flame's wedding that the ONLY reason why she's going through with it was because HIS GIRLFRIEND asked the flame NOT to get with your dad? *facepalm*
"I didn't sleep with her." (*facepalm* SERIOUSLY?! YOU CAN'T EVEN ACT OUT IN ANGER PROPERLY?!) "But I may as well have." (Well now you have herpes of the mouth, Dan. Congrats.)
So I say good riddance. I hope they STAY broken up. They're SO FAR from being the golden couple of this series, it's not funny. I really want Serena to have a bit of an affair with someone, something that she wants to keep hidden like a dirty secret that WON'T be with her bff's boyfriend while drunk. Something that she wants to keep secret to stay fresh and risky or something.
And who better to do that sort of thing with than Chuck? I WILL NOT LET THIS GO. Serena and Chuck are my Veronica and Weevil from Veronica Mars. Do you realize how HOT Veronica/Weevil would have been? Even if it was just a fleeting encounter. That's what I want from this. I don't want them to be TOGETHER (well, unless it was the very end of the series or something and by that time they were still hot together. Then it would be cool to have something hinted at between them that they'd be together post-series). I just want them to have some hot, dirty sex and then act like nothing happened so they can have rendezvous in shadowed hallways to grope each other and stuff.
In a pinch I can go along with Blair and Chuck. That would do, too, but after this episode I'm totally clueless as to what would happen. They had one week together, presumably with lots of sex and snide remarks shared, and then Chuck decided to stay behind with Lady Looks-a-Perma-Stoned and Blair went off to battle for the jump seat (what the hell is that, btw? Specifically in the helicopter, I mean) with the marketing dude who wasn't THAT bad looking. A little smarmy, perhaps, and clearly not going to last longer than this episode, but still.
I don't think Lydia Hearst will last beyond this episode either? Unless she stays on and Chuck's still fooling around with her and then Daddy Bass decides to get in on the action on the side, which would then, probably, cause the breakup of Lily and Bart and send her running back to Rufus. However, by then Rufus will have met some wild-child rocker-chick roadie during his tour and will have brought her home to the kids. She'll probably turn out to be a recovering addict or something by the time seven episodes have gone past and Rufus turns to Lily but she's taken Bart back because she REALLY wants this marriage to work out and she feels she has no other choice.
Dan, in the meantime, will have hung himself in his closet while performing auto-erotic asphyxiation on himself because it's the ONLY FUCKING EXCITING THING HE'S EVER THOUGHT TO DO EVER.
Um... right. Seriously, Dan's getting under my skin.
As far as the fashions for the episode have gone, I've seen the dresses everyone was going to be wearing for a couple weeks now as the candids from filming were posted all over gossip blogs. I liked all the dresses in the pictures, for the most part, but they really came alive on screen, obviously. The stand out for me was Serena's dress. It was a little clown-ish around the neck area and I'm sure a lot of people hated it but I thought it was GORGEOUS. The coulour, the cut, the ruffles, the accents with the black belt and gloves and her boobs looked AWESOME in it! I also LOVED the colour of Vanessa's dress but I think the shock of it wore off from all the pictures so I didn't like it AS well as I did when I first saw it. Leighton's dress was okay. I loved the colour but I don't think I liked the way it hung around her neck or the general flowiness of it.
The Georgina thing was a bit anti-climactic but I did enjoy how wide Michelle's eyes went when her character realized it was her parents there with her. I have to wonder if her selling her horse for drug money also funded her little world-wide excursions, since she was supposed to be at boarding school (unless that was just a cover story that she told everyone who knew her from Serena's household and she was only floating around in general) or on the equestrian circuit. I don't know how much that sort of horse would go for but plane tickets from Europe, private cars, fancy hotels and drugs would pile up pretty fast. I wonder how much of her parents' money was funding her little vacation.
It is nice to see that she won't be coming back, however, at least for a LONG, LONG time. I just don't know what the writers could have done with her character next season. Unless she met someone who she wanted to change her ways for she would be extremely out of control and ruining everyone's lives, which is fun for a few episodes, but you can't try to run a show whole accommodating for someone quite that fucked in the head. At least on this show, I think.
I really hope that Serena and Dan don't get back together next season. Or if they do it's very short lived and they both move on. I don't know who I want Dan with now. I don't know who I wish to INFLICT him on, really. I don't want him with Vanessa. I"m assuming we're going to find out what happened between Vanessa and Nate next season, in a flash back or something or recounted after other people notice an awkward moment between the two of them.
Either Nate took offense to Vanessa disliking Blair (unlikely as he knows how she can be), she took dislike of Nate's Dad's situation and didn't want to be part of it/he didn't actually tell her for her own safety and she got fed up with it OR one of them (both?) have some sort of horribly disfiguring problem under the clothes that the other just COULDN'T TAKE ANYMORE. GASP.
Jenny and Eric were in the episode, too, apparently. Blinked and missed them? Yeah, pretty much.
So yeah. Chuck hasn't changed, it doesn't seem like Blair cares. Nate's might as well be a damn orphan now but he's MORE FUN NOW and hanging out with Serena for the summer. I don't THINK I see anything happening there, really. But who knows with those two crazy kids.
All I know is that I'm going to try my damnest to write some sort of Serena/Chuck fic. I never got into doing much more for the Veronica Mars fandom than making icons but for Gossip Girl if the writers aren't going to give me what I damn well want, then I'm just going to have to dream it up myself! *sigh*
I'm looking forward to having the s1 dvds on my shelf come August 19th. And then a week later the Supernatural ones. Then bring on s2! Whee!
