I tried to hard to get caught up with my flist when I got home tonight but it just didn't happen. I still have over 200 posts plus whatever's gone up since I gave up. I'll finish tomorrow and maybe get some photos up.
This episode was a bit of a trip just because I got to watch it in a room full of fangirls which will probably the first and last time that ever happens. I'm used to watching the episode in total silence by myself, and also I do not have a hoarde of fangirls at my disposal to watch it with. ;)
Again with the gore. I totally don't mind but it just always strikes me as being really...out of place on the CW, I guess. Or any show, really, except for CSI. When they do the gorey stuff like that and the drain cleaner from last week it always leaves an impression on me. But to be totally honest- dude had it coming. If your table saw is turning on all by its lonesome in the middle of the night you pull the damn cord and run away.
As I was sorting through the caps I kind of got a plot bunny for something involving Ben but I'm like- the LAST person to ever write a story about children. Ever. Which is why I was happy that it WAS resolved that Ben wasn't Dean's. Sure, Lisa could have been lying but she said he wasn't Dean's and that there was a blood test involved. The possibility has ALWAYS been there that Dean has about fifteen mini-mes running around the country side because of his desire to sow his oats and not just since his death sentence. That's enough for me and to bring the possibility even closer makes me feel uncomfortable because there's an added layer of... something- resonsibility or care or whatever that I don't know if I like.
By the end of it all of the signs that Ben MIGHT be Dean's kid were pretty much choking fandom. At first, at the birthday party, it was cute and funny. Oh, he likes girls in a mildly inappropriate way, he likes to eat, he likes classic rock, etc. But then over and over it was like we were being beat over the head with it. Ben saves the other kids, Ben escorts the kids out, Ben offers his jacket, etc, etc. I was half expecting him to burn the Changeling himself because Dean's lighter went flying earlier in the scene. Had that happened it would have been very, very annoying for me. I just... no.
Overall I liked the episode, despite the feeling of being hit over the head with how cool Ben's supposed to be (which comes to me the more I think about it so I just shouldn't do that, I guess). As far as that whole storyline is concerned I really liked the impact of seeing Ben, even though he isn't his, on Dean. The freak out, the realization that he could have a cool kid and teach him stuff, the crushing blow that Ben might not have wanted him when the Changeling took over, forcing himself to step away at the end when Lisa asked him to stay-- all very powerful stuff.
As for Sam's storyline with the female hunter/demon I'm rather reserved. I must say, right off the bat, that Katie Cassidy's acting with this character DRIVES ME. I don't know if it's the way she's like- over enunciating and over exaggerating some of her words and facial movements or something to appear smug and in the know or WHAT but it rather bothers me. But the fact that she's possessed definitely explains how she can look so pretty for a hunter and have such perfect, perfect hair. I'm using it as an explanation, at any rate.
I'm just so, so, so happy that they're going back to the Mary/YED storyline hinted at last year. I cannot WAIT to find out what Mary's connection was, why the YED went to so much trouble to make sure no one knew about her, etc. It rocks all the more because Sam's powers, his status as the Boy King (hee!) and all that TOTALLY isn't over. The mytharc makes me tingly in happy places so I'm all for pushing forward and figuring out what the hell is going on. And now that Sam basically has to lie to Dean and could be putting his own life at risk (COULD. Ha. IS) it's all becoming more tangled.
Before the reveal that hunter chick is a demon I thought there was the possibility that she's Mary's daughter. I didn't think it out enough to come up with a how but all the info she knew about Mary, prompting Sam to check out her friends, her interest in Sam, etc, just made me wonder. And that long, flowy blonde hair didn't hurt either. But it seems VERY unlikely now. Just like the whole theory/hope that Sam was going to turn out to be the YED's son. I still think that would have been AWESOME.
I can see why people are saying the show hasn't quite found its footing yet this season but it IS only the second episode. They've introduced a new character, Bobby and Ellen are off doing their thing, and there's a war going on so things are going to be VERY different and the show's finding a new personality as a result.
Katie's mom? Would make an awesome Sarah Connor, I think. And was Lisa, Ben's mom, the girl that played Warren's robot girlfriend in "I was Made for You" on Buffy? She's really pretty.
And yeah, that's about it, I think. This episodes was one of the only times this season I'll get to watch the episode live which is okay in some respects because it makes it easier to resist the promos for next week. In the room with the other fangirls there was one other person and myself turned away from the tv with our fingers in our ears so we wouldn't see next week's promo. Let's hear it for nerds!
